This course provides the tools needed for culturally competent substance use treatment. We will also review cultural respect, cultural competence, health disparities, health-related experience, complementary approaches, patient-centered care, trans-cultural communication, and client-centered approaches to healthcare.
You will receive a certificate for 9 clock hours once you complete the final assessment for this training.
Course Objectives
- Understand the diversity to communicate effectively and interact appropriately across diverse populations.
- Name the 3 critical components of cultural competence
- Verbalize 2 ways culture can affect a patient's response to treatment
- Name 2 intervention strategies you can use
- Identify 1 or 2 ways to counsel a patient struggling with engaging in treatment because of their cultural belief.
- Identify 2 of your own bias that might impact your ability to counsel other cultures effectively.
